RA CREATIVE MULTIMEDIA
THE POWER OF STORYTELLING
Photography isn’t just an art form, but a vital tool to capture moments in their purest form. These still frames of light make real our memories, our struggles, our life. One photograph has the power to evoke an emotional response that can inspire change and truth understood in a universal language. RA CREATIVE MEDIA LLC is dedicated to storytelling, networking and providing a voice for those who can’t be heard.
“Life rarely presents fully finished photographs. An image evolves, often from a single strand of visual interest a distant horizon, a moment of light, a held expression.” ~ Sam Abell
I currently reside on the island of Maui, Hawaii, but was raised both in the state of California and abroad, mostly Guatemala where I was born. I have always been an avid traveler, alive with a burning desire to continue to explore and discover. My passion is to convey incredible stories of human resilience and give a voice to those who don’t have one as best I can. I am an advocate in the preservation and conservation of the environment and all its wildlife.
From an early age, I was always surrounded by artists, musicians, and photographers where I was taught the value of creation. My first camera was a 35mm Kodak Ektralite and always remember carrying it around, later I learned the technique of developing my own film. I was intrigued by the process as images slowly revealed themselves in the darkroom. Excited to see how my vision came to light, I fell in love with the art of visual communication.
I started to take photography more seriously after attending the College of San Mateo. I was inspired by my fellow peers and encouraged by my professors. Although divided between my love of the ocean wanting to major in oceanography, I eventually decided to commit fully to the realm of visual arts. I was accepted to the Hussman School of Media and Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I earned a degree in photojournalism.
I have since worked for various non-profits including the Emergency Services Corps, supporting New Castle County fire departments in recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters through visual communication. I freelanced throughout my years working on independent projects, stories ranging from illegal immigrants destined to return back to their native lands, to preserving archeological sites in Northern Peru, to a unique bond between a Mahout and his elephant in Thailand.
Following my passion has led me to where I am at today, I dedicate most of my time continuing my late husband’s legacy alongside the organization he founded, Pacific Whale Foundation, with a mission to protect the ocean through science and advocacy, and to inspire environmental stewardship. I am very proud of my latest project, A Voice for Whales, a film about our interconnectedness and the delicate balance we must sustain with the natural world. I am humbled and honored to have received so much recognition and support from all those around me.
I am looking forward to my next endeavor.
I am always looking for side projects, I have experience documenting weddings, events, and small business video advertising. I am also interested in the opportunity to just learn and meet new people, willing to assist in group projects.
Let’s create something beautiful together!
